Music

Skrillex The one-person band, Skrillex, makes dubstep/EDM types of music. Sonny John Moore, aka Skrillex, is an American record producer, DJ, singer, songwriter and musician. The use of instruments such as a synthesizer, drum machine and bass gives the music a techno kind of vibe; Skrillex usually does not put lyrics into his music but when he does it is usually very repetitive, for example, in the song First Of The Year, he repeats "Baby you've got a (ah) ni-ni-nightmare. Baby you've got a nightmare (oh babe). Baby you've got, a nightmare!" In addition, in the song Bangarang, he repeats, "Shout to all my lost boys, sh-sh-sh-sh-sh-shouts to all my lost boys we rowdy." While watching the music videos Skrillex provides a story for each one, even though theres no story told in the lyrics. Skrillex was one of the first popular dubstep bands and his music quickly became popular; in fact the song Rock N' Roll (Will Take You To The Mountain) was one

Performance Video

My performance video was me making cookies on a cold day because what else would you do on a cold day? I  had a friend help me film, as well as I even filmed a few shots to give perspective. The hardest part of this project was trying to plan out how many shots I  would need to film to fill the full 2 minutes. Although in general the filming was fun and I  got to eat some delicious cookies after. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UuPw0ghjM_8

Collage

Image
The title of this collage is "Mind, Body and Soul". Growing up, I have always relied on meditating and yoga as a stress reliever. Being able to balance your mind body and soul is essential in practices of meditation and yoga and I feel as though everyone should take at least 10 minutes per day to meditate.  Because of my views, I used a photo of my eye and placed on top of the head (mind),  on the body, and in the sky. Most of the time we associate your soul being connected with a religious being--whatever  that being might be is most likely in heaven and up above which is why I chose to place the eye in the sky. In addition, I used photos of my hands to represent the hands and feet of a man who is casually walking down the street. Of course since this isn't how a man looks, the sky is painted purple and white to represent a parallel universe.

grid art

Image
This peice of art is supposed to resemble Bob Marley because he is one of my favorite singers. To start off, I drew lines and put a grid on my canvas then I labled each square with the color I wanted to use in it. After that, I just painted it in and outlined it in black and then ta da!

Dido and Aeneas

Jillian Aebly The 1688 groundbreaking performance and opera of Dido and Aeneas , written by Henry Purcell, portrayed an iconic love affair filled with betrayal, lust, anger and love. The use of mise en scene throughout, made it easier for the audience to understand the heinous scenes vs the pleasant ones and the cordial vs malicious characters. Though it is considered to be an opera, the use of technology, lighting and scenery evokes a cinematic affect, which at that time could be looked at as innovative and revolutionary. To understand this opera, you need to first understand the past of these two lovers and how they came to unite as one. After the Trojan War, Aeneas fled the burning city of Troywith his wife and son to build a new empire in Italy, although they both died in the flames and when he set sail to find new land and build a new empire, a deadly storm veered them astray and placed them in vulnerable land (which eventually becomes Rome). Similarly, Dido fled her homel

Stop Motion Animation

The stop motion video I made took a while to paint the background and cut out all the little sea animals, and I faced difficulty with keeping the background in place and trying to remember which direction each animal was swimming in. In general, I  had a lot of fun with this project! To me, the process of brainstorming ideas was the best part, along with seeing the whole video at the end after hours of working on it. The theme I chose, under the sea, was meaningful to me in the sense that I    am a lover of water and sea animals (on the contrary it was not meaningful in the sense that the shark was feeding, although it adds drama which is important to keep the viewers attention).

History and Invention of Smartphones

Image
Despite what most may think, Apple's iPhone was not the first invented smartphone in fact, the first smartphone, called Simon, was made 15 years before the iPhone was released! In 1926, Nikola Tesla's interview with Collier foreshadowed the invention of the smartphone. Tesla stated, “ It will soon be possible, for instance, for a business man in New York to dictate instructions and have them appear instantly in type in London or elsewhere. He will be able to call up from his desk and talk with any telephone subscriber in the world. ” Years later, in 1992, the Simon Personal Communicator was released; this phone was created by the company IBM and it costs around $899. The Simon had many modern features such as a touchscreen, a calendar, a stock and news app and it could also place and receive phone calls. To us, in the 21st century, this seems ancient... although during the time it was invented it was an overkill to the general population. The distributor ended up lowering th
